What is the difference between electrolysis and Laser/IPL?

Electrolysis is the only form of permanent hair removal recognised by the Advertising Standards Association and the British Medical Association in the UK. Laser and IPL are only able to offer permanent hair reduction, not removal.

What areas can be treated with electrolysis?

Any area of the body can be treated with electrolysis. For women, common treatments areas are the face, chest, nipples, abdomen, bikini, arms, fingers and toes. For men we can treat upper arms, ears, top of nose, back, the edges of the beard and on areas where ingrowing hairs can be a problem.

Does electrolysis hurt?

The level of discomfort felt during electrolysis differs from person to person. Most people only find the experience mildly uncomfortable and some experience no discomfort at all.  Some areas of the body can be a little more sensitive than others.  Other factors that can affect what sensation is experienced are how tiredness, stress levels and hormone fluctuations. Elite Electroylsis use a leading Apilus system that features a tolerance test to allow adjustments to be made to the current to minimise discomfort.  If necessary, an anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment. Options to ensure the most comfortable experience will be discussed during your consultation.

How long will it be before I am hair-free?

The length of time is will take to permanently remove hair depends on the size of the area and the type of hair to be treated. Electrolysis is not a quick fix and a course of treatments will be required. Once your consultation has taken place, your therapist will be able to give you a guide on the number of sessions that will likely be required to achieve the results you are looking for.

What skin reaction should I expect after treatment?

After the treatment you may feel some warmth in the treated area, perhaps with some redness and slight swelling. This is normal and it usually takes about an hour to reduce. To minimise the risk of infection it is important that your aftercare advice is followed.

Is electrolysis safe?

Electrolysis is an extremely safe treatment when undertaken by a fully qualified therapist. Sophie McCallum, Elite Electrolysis' primary therapist, is CIBTAC qualified and BABTAC approved. Our clinic is fully insured and we operate to the highest industry hygiene and safety standards.

Do I have to let hairs grow for treatment?

The hair has to be just long enough grip with tweezers.  In between treatments the hair must not be removed by tweezers or waxing as this can affect how effective your treatment is. We recommend that you cut or shave between treatments.
